The boys were delighted to be asked if they would like to review the Kinetic Sand Beach Box Set for free.
When we opened the box, we found a sand tray, a bag of purple sand and four seaside theme moulds a. I tipped the sand into the tray and the boys got straight down to playing.
They had great fun telling stories as they made and demolished and rebuilt their sand models again and again. They were absolutely engrossed for ages. They were also very happy about how well made their models were every time compared to using traditional sand. And I have to say they made very little mess. I had put a mat underneath the tray so it was easy for me to clear up the small spillages back into the tray, due to the kinetic sticking nature of the sand.
Here is a video of the boys doing one of their sand modelling stories. You can view it here on the Toys R Us YouTube channel.
And now I’ll include some comments from a mum’s point of view. In particular I’m comparing it against another brand indoor sand toy which we already possess. Firstly I was very pleased that Kinetic Sand only contained one colour of sand, as our existing toy has two colours and they are now very mixed together. Next I was very surprised to see that the tray did not have a lid like our existing toy. I was too worried to store an open tray of sand just in it’s cardboard box. Too much risk of spillage, so I bagged the tray and contents in a large plastic bag before putting back in the box after the boys had finished playing.
Also I read on the reverse of the box that you should store Kinetic Sand in a sealed container to keep it clean and dust free. So another reason why a lidded tray would be better.
So in summary a big thumbs up on the fun front, but you’ll have to be careful storing this toy. And please be aware this is designed as an indoor toy and should be kept dry.
It currently retails at Toys R Us for £19.99, and is recommended for age 3+. Above pocket money prices but a good price if buying as a gift.
