Leappad 2 Disney Princess Enchanted Review

The LeapPad2 Disney Princess Enchanted Bundle from LeapFrog is a great value set ideal for any little princess.  It comes with A Disney Princess LeapPad2 in pink and adorned with pictures of Belle, Ariel, Cinderella and Rapunzel, well padded carry case with space for 6 games, two necklaces, 5 pre loaded apps and a £15 download card to use on the App Centre.

The LeapPad2 has a 5″ touch screen and a stylus which is attached with string at the side, front and back 2MP cameras/video recorders and 4GB of memory.  It’s easy to set up, literally talking you though the whole process (you’ll need to connect it to a computer) and you can create three different profiles with age specific levels available, ideal if you have more than one child.  There is also a spare profile labelled as guest.

There are 5 apps included, Pet Pad, LeapFrog Learning Songs, Cartoon Director, Art Studio and then one app of your choosing when you register the LeapPad.  With the £15 download card that is included you can purchase apps from the AppCentre online, these cost between £3.50 and £20 each and with over 220 to chose from you’ll be spoilt for choice!  As they’re more expensive than a regular android or iTunes app it’s worth doing a bit of research on them first.  You can also purchase physical game cartridges as well but these tend to a lot more expensive than their virtual counterparts.  The games you’ll need are the LeapFrog Explorer games which can be used in any LeapPad or Leapster.

Perhaps the only downside to the LeapPad2 is that it takes 4AA batteries and drains these pretty quickly.  There are ways around this though with rechargeable batteries, the AC adapter or the recharger pack.  Although it’s the most expensive option at about £29.99, I’d personally recommend the recharger pack.

Imogen is soon to be six and really enjoys using the LeapPad2, eBooks and the science game “Elements on the Loose” seem to be her favourites.   I think it’s a great first tablet for kids, solid and sturdy to survive tantrums, easy to use and with a wide selection of apps available with great educational value.

The Disney Princess Enchanted Bundle is great value for money at £79.99 and would make a fabulous present.
