I had a bit of a surprise when I pulled this out of the Toyologist box for my son to build. My daughter begged me to let her have it. I have to say I felt a little annoyed with myself for assuming it would be my son interested in it rather than my daughter. Anyway, Belle claimed the kit for herself, with the promise of sharing it with Tech Boy.
As you would expect, this kit contains KRE-O pieces (174) and easy-to-follow instructions.
Belle set to work building it, needing only a little help to find a few pieces. There are two figures with a few optional attachments, and a combat chopper. I left Belle for the evening building…
and returned home to find this waiting for me…
Belle was keen to show me what the Combat Chopper does. It’s not just a model- it actually shoots missiles (seen the lower right hand corner of this picture). By pressing a button on the side, the blades rotate, which is actually very cool. This went down well because it isn’t just a build-and-look-at model, it can actually be played with. The figures, Fighter Pilot KREON and Alien Scout KREON, are detailed and come with a couple of weapons.
Despite this being traditionally thought of as a boys toy, Belle really enjoyed building it. She said the instructions were clear and that it didn’t take her as long as she thought it would to build. It is recommended for age 7+ but I would suggest an adult would need to help at the lower end of the age range, simply because there are many pieces and I can imagine a younger builder getting frustrated trying to find the next piece. It is straightforward to build in itself though.
Belle liked this a lot and has noted that it is part of a range of KRE-O Battleship toys. I can just sense that Christmas list growing already!
The KRE-O Battleship is available from Toys R Us for £19.99
