Julian Edelman Dismisses Discussion of Patriots Going 19-0

The New England Patriots have reloaded their roster for next season to make a run at a sixth Super Bowl title since 2001, though wide receiver Julian Edelman is trying to silence premature talk of a perfect season.

Per the Boston Herald‘s Adam Kurkjian, Edelman offered this response when asked about the possibility of the Patriots going 19-0 in 2017:

Even though talk of a perfect season in July—two months before the regular season begins—is wildly premature, the Patriots did inadvertently bring some of it on themselves.

ESPN.com’s Darren Rovell reported on Feb. 1 that online records showed the Patriots trademarked “Perfect Season” and “19-0,” stemming from their quest for perfection 10 years ago.

The Patriots are the last NFL team to make it through a regular season undefeated, going 16-0 in 2007, but their quest for a perfect season ended with a 17-14 defeat against the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII.

New England had the NFL’s best record last season at 14-2 and won the franchise’s fifth Super Bowl title by defeating the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in overtime after erasing a 25-point third-quarter deficit.
