Fisher-Price Toys: The Story

For over 70 years, Fisher-Price have been leading the way when it comes to innovative, stimulating toys to encourage kids’ learning and development.fisher_price_little_people_logo

The company was founded in 1930 in New York State, by Herman Fisher, Irving Price, his wife Margaret Evans-Price, and Helen Schelle. From the very beginning, their aim was to create developmental toys based on the principles of play value, ingenuity, strong construction, action and good value for money. The Great Depression was taking its toll across the United States, but Fisher-Price toys captured the imaginations of both parents and children, and the company quickly went from strength to strength.

Since the early 1930s, Fisher-Price has created a staggering amount of different toys – around 5000! One of the most successful ranges has been Fisher-Price Little People, a colourful selection of playsets, toys and books aimed at preschool-aged children, designed for encouraging creative play and individual learning.

Discover Your Way

Now, Fisher-Price is building on those founding principles with the launch of Discover Your Way. As a parent, you’ll know that your child reaps greater rewards when they discover things for themselves, and the experts at Fisher-Price agree that there is no one correct way for children to play. The Discover Your Way philosophy is all about helping kids discover their very own style of play, at their own pace.laugh-n-learn-puppy

Learning comes through having fun, not through an overly structured or prescriptive play regime. That’s why Fisher-Price toys are designed to encourage exploration, stimulate imagination and feed your child’s curiosity.

Fisher-Price have even developed Smart Stages, using technology that evolves as your baby grows, adjusting to your baby’s level of development. Toys such as the Laugh and Learn Puppy Learning Train have three different levels, allowing them to learn through play at their own natural pace. There are three age-appropriate stages:

  • Explore, for babies from 6 months who are beginning to look at the world around them
  • Encourage, for babies from 12 months, featuring lots of learning through action
  • Pretend, from babies from 18 months, to encourage creative play
